The durian is a tropical southeastern Asian fruit commonly found in countries like Indonesia, Philippines, and Thailand. Saying that this fruit smells and tastes like gym socks is a definite understatement. I've heard stories that this fruit smell is so putrid vile, some countries like Singapore ban it from possession in public areas. Nonetheless, I gave it a try.
Some describe it as a custard-like almond flavored treasure. I, however, gagged after taking my first bite. The onion and gym sock taste overpowered the promised custard flavor. It's an acquired taste that only those who were born with it will enjoy. If you're the adventurous type, take a trip to Chinatown and give it a shot!
